Mike Messer is a Performer/Singer/Composer/Poet/ Guitarist/Actor/Teacher/Producer and artist based in New York City. Right up to the very beginning of the pandemic, he was busy hustling through the local music scene, performing in multiple separate weekly residencies as well as semi regular appearances at Brooklyn Bowl, Industry City and The Capitol Theater, and various bars and nightclubs.
XM Radio calls his performances have been described as “passionate and epic” and his music “funny, evocative lyrics and beautiful melodies that are seldom what you’d expect”, pairing with songwriting partners that include Chris Barron of the sensational SPIN DOCTORS and Ty Taylor of VINTAGE TROUBLE. He first became known nationally on the regional theater circuit, and via his vibrant performances on HBO, CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, Noggin, and the ever popular SESAME STREET.
Mike is the lead singer and songwriter of the DIRTY SOCK FUNTIME BAND, “the first real rock band for kids” (FOX News), praised as “the most exciting and innovative children’s music ever” by MTV. Mike and the band became household icons to kids and young parents nationwide thanks to their videos receiving daily plays on Nick Jr. While playing venues as legendary and diverse as Chicago’s Ravinia Festival, New Jersey’s PNC Arts Center and NYC’s Symphony Space, he was, at the same time, balancing his career in children’s music with the Dirty Socks and and his other children’s’ music rock project “The AfterSchool Special” one as a soulful singer songwriter, both under his own name and as the pseudonym “Adoraborialis.
In addition to performing concerts all over the US, Europe, the Middle East, Japan, Guam and Guantanamo Bay, Mike toured nationally as the lead singer on the British Rock Symphony Tour, sharing the stage with the late, great rock and soul legend (and sometime Beatle keyboardist) Billy Preston, and starring internationally as the lead “Berger” in the rock musical HAIR, including the first ever production in Beirut, Lebanon. He produces a variety of artists in his Harlem studio “Electric LennyLand”, where he also composes and performs soundtracks, jingles and voice overs for the New York Times, Bank of Boston, Popsicle and education.com.
Mike’s singing voice can be heard on television’s SEX, DRUGS & ROCK N ROLL, WONDER PETS, SING IT, LAURIE and in the theme song of the world wide hit cartoon SUPER WINGS. Having moved most of his operations online since March, Mike performs twice weekly live from Electric Lennyland in “Cooped-Up Concerts”a half hour of uplift, love and music for all the kids and kid like adults in the worldwide audience who join him there. He was also Co-Host and house band of Pollstar-charting The Rock and Roll Playhouse’s “Live from the Playroom” that brought jam band fun to music fans of all ages. In the online world he is also a composer and cast member of the online show “Vashty’s Friends”, alongside some of Broadway’s brightest talents.
For over 15 years he’s been a teacher in NYC after school programs with his arts empowerment filmmaking class “Rock N Roll Movies”. He is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University’s prestigious School of Drama, and also did formal study in Oxford, England. see more at http://www.mikemessermusic.com
